In late 2012, Heaven & Earth Magic began taking orders for Hiss Golden Messenger's Lord I Love the Rain, a long-playing collection (released on Germany's boutique Jellyfant label) that featured a selection of offcuts from Bad Debt, imaginary soundtrack pieces, and covers of favorites by Ronnie Lane and Michael Hurley. Due to a malfunction at the manufacturing plant, the first batch of LPs that landed on these American shores were pressed with side A running approximately 15% too fast. The problem was quickly remedied by running a new pressing, and the album sold out soon thereafter.

I've decided to sell the original mispresses for a significantly reduced rate, simply because they've been gathering dust in the garage when they could actually be put to good use. These records are unplayed and in mint condition. To listen to side A properly, simply pitch the album down slightly; side B plays correctly with no adjustment. This version of Lord I Love the Rain will not come with covers or inserts, but will arrive in plain white inner sleeves. Now is your chance to hear this sneaky little album the way it was meant to be heard-- on vinyl.

    Record/Vinyl

Originally released as a digital-only EP, Hiss Golden Messenger’s "Lord I Love the Rain" has been reconstituted as a fully realized long playing album that juxtaposes grainy kitchen table gospel and dusted imaginary sci-fi soundtrack pieces alongside dead-of-night renditions of Michael Hurley’s “The Revenant” and Ronnie Lane’s “Tell Everyone.” "Lord I Love the Rain" is the sound of Hiss Golden Messenger after hours.

Recorded in Pittsboro, Oxford and Durham, North Carolina, LILTR features M.C. Taylor, Scott Hirsch, Terry Lonergan, Bobby Crow, Elijah Lee Taylor and Matt Cunitz. The album was mixed by Scott Hirsch at Echo Magic, Brooklyn, NY, and mastered by Anthony Puglisi at Sentrall West, Los Angeles, CA.

"Lord I Love the Rain" will be released on October 28th, 2012 by Jellyfant in an edition of 600 hand-numbered LPs in Folkways-style paste-on jackets designed by Brendan Greaves, with liner notes by folklorist, curator and guitarist Nathan Salsburg.
